Symbolic Map

Picture
This project consisted on finding things that represent you and your personality. Then, using this symbols we had to draw a map of an invented place, giving it the name we wanted to. We had to think on 10 things which represented us, and incorporate all of them in the map, including also a compass rose and giving the country or island geographical features such as river, peninsulas, oceans, and more. We first did a brainstorm with drawings of the ten symbols. Then, we draw a rough draft of the map in our sketchbooks. Finally, when the draft was finished and colored, I copied the drawing into a big A3 cardboard, making it look exactly as the one I had in my sketchbook. To color it, I painted it with water color pencils. When I colored with this, and then added water, it turned to look just as if I had used watercolors.

This project was really fun and I honestly enjoyed working on it. I could reflect on my likes and dislikes, and also on my personality and character. It was very difficult to think on all the things that could represent or symbolize me, but concentrating and going deep inside myself I found more than I could ever imagine. I had to use a lot of creativity to draw abstract feelings or ideas, but I ended up finding the best ways to symbolize each of them. The easiest part of this project was drawing the map on the big cardboard, because I just had to copy it exactly as I had it on the sketchbook, and it was really easy and didn’t take so much time. The hardest part of the project was painting the map on the final cardboard, because I sometimes got too wet and the watercolors spread too much, and sometimes the colors didn’t turn out to look as I expected them, and it didn’t look how I expected it to. I believe this project symbolizes myself, shows what I like and what I don’t and looks very well-done and shows my creativity.
